Scars can occur from many different causes and come in many different shapes and sizes. Revision of scars can be used to better hide a scar and to make it look better cosmetically. The scar, depending on its size, shape and location can be removed and redirected to match natural skin creases or camouflage the appearance. Following the revision or some times before, the laser or a chemical peel can be used to smooth the scar and tighten it. At the initial appointment inspection of the scar will be performed and photos will be taken. Dr. Lee will then review with you the best options for improvement of the scars appearance.
The surgery will either be performed with local anesthesia or IV sedation depending upon the extent of the scar. The procedure involves removing the old scar and redirecting the wound. Sutures will be placed and removed in 5-7 days. There will be redness and swelling after the surgery. The redness can last for a few months after the revision. It is important to avoid sun exposure after the surgery for at least 6 months or longer.
