Special Precautions for Sinus Exposure
1. For AT LEAST one week following surgery, please avoid:
Smoking
Drinking though a straw
Blowing your nose
Spitting forcefully
Coughing or sneezing
Bending forward at the waist
Aerobic-type activities
Strenuous exercise
Exposure to extreme heat or cold
Nasal Congestion
2. For AT LEAST one week following surgery, please DO:
Keep your head and shoulders elevated on 2-3 pillows while sleeping and get plenty of rest. Follow the prescribed diet plan
3. You may notice bloody discharge from your nose from time to time while the area is healing. Please do not be alarmed by this. If discharge becomes bothersome, apply pressure to the nose with a cloth or towel. Do not insert anything into your nose.
4. If you develop nasal congestion, you may take Sudafed (which may be purchased over the counter) as prescribed on the label. Also you may purchase and can use Ocean Spray nasal spray. If nasal congestion persists, you may use Afrin nasal spray twice a day.
5. If you must cough or sneeze, try to do so with your mouth open (but covered by your hand or a tissue) to avoid creating too much pressure in the sinus cavity.
